Moments of Moms by The Medical City Clark

I remember when I was pregnant for the first time, there were so many questions here and there. There were mixed feelings of fear and excitement while me and my husband were waiting for the big day. Though we have our parents to guide us, I can say we had a lot of questions which were only answerable by experts. This was eight years ago. Now, aside from social media support groups, it is good to know that experts are now within our reach through various talks and seminars here and there.

Last Saturday, May 19, 2018, I was at The Medical City Clark (TMCC) to witness Moments of Moms, a series of talks and open forums conducted by experts to help moms-to-be gain the knowledge they need to know to get through their pregnancies and prepare them for motherhood. It was organized by TMCC's Sales and Marketing team headed by Mr. Carlos Tolentino in cooperation with Pediatrics and OB-GYN Departments of the same hospital. It was attended by around 30 participants, expectant moms and some with their husbands, who heard the news via social media, email blast and personal invitations from their doctor's clinic. The event was also made possible by their sponsors who gave special discounts and loot bags to attendees: Abe-abe Moms, Cordlife and BioFemme.

Moments of Moms had four major topics fit on a half-day program, 8:00 am to 11:30 am. Mr. Tolentino, told me that their aim is to educate expectant moms but at the same time not to keep them long because they don't want to bore them with lengthy talks. As a personal attendee of the event, I can say this aim was met. There were four short interesting topics, all were relevant to pregnancy and motherhood.

Breastmilk (The World's Healthiest Fastfood). This topic was discussed by Dr. Charmee Dungca-Arribe, TMCC's Head of Pediatrics and is known to be a breastfeeding advocate especially here in Central Luzon. The topic was an introduction to motherhood, birth plan and breastfeeding. Unang Yakap/Essential of Intrapartum & New Born Care (EINC) and its relevance to a successful breastfeeding journey was also tackled.

Breast Pumps (The Best Gear for Breastfeeding Concerns). This was the second topic talked through by Ms. Marlene Deang - De Mata, Abe-abe Moms Breastfeeding Councilor.  It was all about choosing the right breast pump and why it is important to have one.

Easy Cooking Demo (Healthy Snacks for Mom to be). That's right! There was also a mini cooking show which was enjoyed by both our eyes and our tummies. Chef John Joshua Yambao, TMCC's Creative Dishes' Chef and Ms. Jemalee Mangosan, TMCC's Clinical Nutritionist made the cooking show possible. Chef Yambao prepared and cooked pasta primavera paired with banana moringga yogurt smoothie, while Ms. Mangosan simultaneously discussed the nutritional facts of the main ingredients.

Prenatal Nutrition (Guidelines on your healthy pregnancy). This final topic was presented to us by Dr. Sheryl Pinpin, OB-GYN. The main concern of this topic was how an expectant mom should take care of herself: proper nutriniton, pre-natal vitamins, what food to eat and what to avoid, etc. Some pregnancy myths and facts were also discussed.
